Steraboard GIO UV tested in collaboration with Van Oordt The Portion Company
We are proud to launch our latest innovation: Steraboard GIO UV, an offset ink developed for sustainable and in-direct food contact packaging. For this important step, we were able to rely on the expertise and involvement of our loyal customer Van Oordt The Portion Company, a specialist in portion packaging.

A partner with the same philosophy
For many years, Van Oordt has been a leader in portion packaging – from sugar bags to cookies, from sandwich toppings to mints. Their philosophy revolves around reducing waste, optimal ease of use, and hygiene. With their strong focus on sustainability and people-centered entrepreneurship, they were the perfect partner to be the first to test our newest ink.
Moreover, Van Oordt has been a loyal customer for many years, which made this project extra special: it was very valuable to be able to test our newest innovation extensively with them.

Practical testing
In their state-of-the-art factory, we were allowed to follow the full process:
- Printing: Our ink was tested on their impressive web press, on a lightweight and environmentally friendly substrate specially developed for recycling.
- Quality control: The printed samples were wound on rolls and sent to our analytical lab, where migration was extensively tested using a worst-case scenario test. For several weeks, a set-off simulation was carried out, followed by a migration test in capsules. The result? None of the migration thresholds were crossed.
- Finishing: After this successful test, the sugar bags were glued, filled, and sealed by Van Oordt – fully according to their high-quality standards.

The benefits of Steraboard GIO UV
Our new Steraboard GIO UV ink was specially developed for high-speed printing on board substrates used in the food packaging industry.
- Food safety: Fully compliant with the strictest industry standards and legal requirements, Steraboard GIO UV is already aligned with the upcoming German Ink Ordinance (GIO), effective January 1, 2026.
- Seamless transition: With identical colour values to its predecessor (Steraboard UV Food) switching to Steraboard GIO UV is smooth and effortless.
- Enhanced performance: With improved ink–water balance and excellent rub resistance, this ink simplifies the printing process and meets the toughest demands of the packaging industry.
