Toyo Ink Europe completed German Ink Ordinance compliant ink portfolio in 2025
Toyo Ink Europe, the European-based energy-curing inks division of artience Group, Japan, marked 2025 with a major expansion of its GIO-compliant ink portfolio. The new launches span flexographic and offset printing technologies, delivering food-safe, low-migration, and regulation-ready inks without compromising on print quality, productivity, or substrate versatility.
In flexo printing, Steraflex GIO UV (launched June 2025) offers high colour strength, fast UV curing, excellent printability, and broad substrate compatibility, making it ideal for labels and packaging on both closed substrates such as PE, PP and PET as on absorbent ones such as paper and board. Steraflex GIO LED, introduced at Labelexpo Europe in September 2025, extends these benefits to LED-UV flexo printing, providing energy-efficient curing, minimal odour, and consistent, vibrant print results across a wide range of substrates.
In offset printing, Steraboard GIO UV and Steraplast GIO UV (October 2025) bring German Ink Ordinance compliance to paper, board, and closed substrates, combining fast UV curing, high gloss, strong adhesion, and low migration. Meanwhile, the LED Offset Food series was renamed EkoPro GIO LED, reinforcing its role as a LED-compatible offset solution. Although the German Ink Ordinance (GIO) was originally due in January 2026, converters and ink manufacturers have a one-year extension. “With our low migration portfolio fully GIO-compliant,” says Ismail Yilmaz, General Manager Sales & Corporate Strategy, Toyo Ink Europe, “converters can use this period to adopt compliant inks early, gain market advantage, and stay ahead of competition.”
With these launches, Toyo Ink Europe provides a comprehensive, ready-to-use portfolio of UV and LED inks across flexo and offset, supporting substrates from labels to folding cartons, films, and closed substrates. The portfolio enables converters to produce high-quality, compliant packaging efficiently, meet stringent sustainability requirements, and gain a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving market.
