Steraflex GIO LED: Toyo Ink Europe’s latest development on fast, safe and sustainable low migration flexo inks

When we introduced Steraflex GIO UV, it raised the bar for what low-migration inks could deliver in terms of safety, regulatory compliance and substrate versatility. Now, at Labelexpo Europe 2025, we are preparing to take the next step: launching Steraflex GIO LED.

Steraflex GIO UV is already fully compliant under EuPIA, the Swiss Ordinance, the German Ink Ordinance, and current ECHA SVHC listings, with the formulation excluding high-risk photo initiators like PI379, ITX and benzophenone.

Developing an equally compliant LED version of these inks — where curing depth, adhesion, and migration can behave differently – proved to be a challenging task.

LED curing brings faster drying, less heat stress on heat-sensitive films, and reduced energy consumption — all of which translate into higher throughput, lower cost, and better print consistency. For converters, the question is whether Steraflex GIO LED can match the regulatory safety of its UV equivalent while delivering similar colour, adhesion, and runnability under high demands.

The answer is definitely yes! Steraflex GIO LED retains the key safety exclusions (photo initiator 379, etc.), offers similar broad substrate compatibility (including BOPP, PET, PE, treated plastics), and performs well at high line speeds with LED lamps of sufficient power.

Looking to the tests done with Steraflex GIO LED, it could become a benchmark product line for brands and converters looking to meet both regulatory safety (especially German Ink Ordinance) and production efficiency.

Come to Hall 3, Stand A32 in Barcelona to discover this brand new Steraflex GIO LED range and learn all about how this LED series truly bridges the gap between safety, sustainability and performance in flexo ink systems.
